D.O. Alella

One of Catalonia's smallest and oldest wine appellations, just north of Barcelona.

The appellation

A historic, coastal D.O.

D.O. Alella is a small wine appellation located on the Maresme coast, immediately north of Barcelona. Its history reaches back to Roman times, and its modern recognition as a Denominación de Origen dates from 1953.

The region is shaped by the Mediterranean Sea on one side and the Serralada Litoral mountain range on the other, giving the wines a unique balance of freshness, salinity and ripeness.

White wines from the native Pansa Blanca (Xarel·lo) are the appellation's signature style. Reds, rosés, sparkling wines and traditional sweet and fortified styles complete the picture.
