The Celler Marfil winery in Alella

A modernist winery at the heart of D.O. Alella, with more than a century of history crafting Mediterranean wines.

History

The Cellar

Celler Marfil is a family winery founded in 1906 at the heart of D.O. Alella, just 15 km from Barcelona.

We craft around a dozen wines between Alella and Menorca, and run a wide range of activities linked to wine and gastronomy.

In Alella, Marfil has been the winery's flagship brand since the 1920s. Throughout the 20th century it was Barcelona's reference white wine and was exported worldwide.

Tradition and innovation

Wine making

Today, at Celler Marfil we keep the tradition alive by crafting the wines that have defined the style of D.O. Alella — such as our Pansa Blanca and White Grenache whites — while recovering historic styles like our sweet and fortified wines, and innovating with singular cuvées such as our quality sparkling wines within D.O. Alella.

Team

Xavier Garcia, our winemaker

Xavier Garcia — geologist, agricultural engineer and winemaker — has led the project since 2001. He has driven a new chapter for Marfil wines, recovering traditional styles forgotten for decades and developing new bottlings.

He combines production with work in other wine regions and ongoing research in new projects and oenological studies.
